Jack Catterall discusses recent win and future fight ambitions

(Photo by Mark Robinson/Getty Images) | Getty Images Jack Catterall spends some time catching up with the crew at Ring Magazine and talks about his most recent win over Shakhram Giyasov, hoping to get a fight with Rolly Romero, his interest in a fight with Devin Haney, while also reflecting a bit on his career and how he’s overcome so much to get where he is now at age 32. Check out some quotes from Catterall below with the full segment at the top. Catterall on feeling stronger at 147 “I feel good at ‘47, that was the third fight. I feel strong, obviously making the weight is a little bit easier. But, yeah, I feel like I’ve stayed in the gym since November, since Ekow Essuman I’ve been working on my strength, I’ve been growing into welterweight. I know I’m not the biggest welterweight but I certainly felt like a bigger, stronger welterweight in there.” On wanting a fight with Rolly Romero “From my understanding, [Giyasov] was chasing Rolly for quite some time, he didn’t want to fight him. We jumped at the chance to slipstream in, really, and get in that position to fight Rolly but I made it quite clear to Sam Jones, to Eddie Hearn that I won’t be sitting, waiting about. “That’s why I chose to remove myself from that mandatory position in the WBO to kind of go down this route. But, listen, Rolly, I’d love to get it on next. Let’s do it. If not, vacate the title, do whatever you got to do, but we just want to carry on fighting, stay busy and fight all the top guys and be in some good fights.” On becoming a better fighter as his career progresses “I feel better with every fight. I think sometimes I’ve been my own worst enemy, where I’m probably that comfortable in fights, I’ve maybe not given the output. That being said, I’ve had a long career but I don’t feel like I’ve got any miles on the clock. I look after my body, I live well, I don’t take any punishment in the fights, and with the experience now of these last couple of years fighting these world level fighters and getting that experience and putting it into practice.” On his interest in a potential fight against Devin Haney for the Ring Magazine title “Of course I’m interested. I love that fight. The only reason we went down the WBA route is I was led to believe it could take between 9-12 months for a mandatory to be called between me and Haney. At 32 I don’t want to be sat, waiting on fights. “I want to fight Haney, I want to fight Rolly, I want to fight Garcia, I want to fight Benn. I want to fight everybody.” On how he would beat Haney “Just being Jack Catterall. I think it’s a technical matchup. I think that fight suits me, if I’m honest. When you’re fighting another high level operator it’s kind of much easier to read stuff. I don’t know but I love that fight and I can definitely win that fight.”
