Jacksonville State linebacker Mac Sanders is out for the remainder of the 2026 season due to an upper-body injury. Coach Charles Kelly confirmed the news after a second MRI revealed the severity of the injury, which occurred during the first half of the team's opening game against North Dakota State. Sanders missed the subsequent contest against Eastern Kentucky while the medical staff evaluated his status. The sophomore previously appeared in all 14 games as a freshman, recording 85 tackles, 11½ tackles for loss, and 1½ sacks. He earned Conference USA All-Freshman honors and a spot on the All-Conference team during that campaign. Sanders retains three years of remaining athletic eligibility.
