Jacob Heatherly announces retirement from professional baseball

Jacob Heatherly, a 28-year-old left-handed pitcher, officially announced his retirement on September 8. Heatherly most recently played for the Chicago White Sox organization, where he signed a minor league contract in January. He spent time with the Double-A Birmingham affiliate during the 2026 season before his release on July 23. Over his seven-year minor league career, which included a tenure with the Cincinnati Reds, he recorded a 14-17 record with a 5.45 ERA. Heatherly missed the entire 2022 season following Tommy John surgery and did not pitch in affiliated baseball during 2025. After attempting a comeback this year, he confirmed his decision to step away from the sport via social media.
