Jacques Villeneuve discusses his father's legacy and upcoming biopic release

Jacques Villeneuve recently addressed the public comparisons between his Formula 1 career and that of his father, Gilles Villeneuve. Ahead of the premiere of the biopic Villeneuve: Rise of a Legend at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 19, the 1997 world champion reflected on his personal motivation for racing. Jacques stated that he competed due to his passion for the sport rather than an obligation to continue his father’s legacy. He noted that the film provides a more accurate account of his childhood years and his father's career than the narrative often pushed by media outlets. The biopic, which features executive producer Melanie Villeneuve, is scheduled for a theatrical release in Quebec in November with a global release planned for next year. Meanwhile, Formula 1 heads to Madrid, where Gilles Villeneuve secured his final career victory at Jarama in 1981.
