Jahmai Jones sets Red Sox record for early production after trade

Outfielder Jahmai Jones has recorded the highest OPS in Red Sox history for any player in their first 23 games with the franchise. Acquired in a trade with the Detroit Tigers on July 14, Jones has maintained a.455 batting average while serving in a platoon role against left-handed pitching. The 29-year-old has provided the Red Sox with three home runs and seven RBI since joining the team. This offensive output has helped Boston rank among the top ten teams in several hitting categories against left-handed pitchers. Elsewhere, right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Portland next week as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. Boston currently holds a six-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the American Wild Card race heading into a four-game series beginning Thursday.
