Jahmyr Gibbs pursues 50th career touchdown with Detroit in NFL opener

Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs enters his third season needing one touchdown to reach 50 scores in 50 career regular-season games. Joining this milestone would place Gibbs among a group of five players including Jim Brown and Marcus Allen who achieved the feat historically. Gibbs recorded 49 touchdowns over his first two seasons, setting an all-time record for a player's first three years in the league. He enters the 2026 campaign as the primary running back in the Detroit backfield, following a contract extension worth $22.5 million annually. The Lions open their season on the road against the Buffalo Bills in five days. This game will take place at the new stadium in Buffalo.
