Jakub Mensik reaches French Open semifinals after defeating Joao Fonseca

Jakub Mensik advanced to the semifinals of the French Open after defeating Joao Fonseca 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (3) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. Just days earlier, Mensik suffered from cramps and was taken off the court in a wheelchair. In his quarterfinal match, the 20-year-old demonstrated a strong performance, winning 13 out of 15 serve-and-volley points against Fonseca. Mensik noted that this was one of his best performances after recovering from physical struggles in the previous rounds. He will face Alexander Zverev for a spot in the final, as Zverev defeated Rafael Jodar in the other quarterfinal match.

"Less than a week ago, Jakub Mensik was pushed away from the court in a wheelchair after collapsing to the clay with cramps. The 6-foot-5 Mensik used his attacking game to end the run of Brazil’s Joao Fonseca with a 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory in the quarterfinals Tuesday. It was Mensik’s most convincing performance so far at Roland Garros after struggling physically in the heat wave during the opening week.
