Jalen Duren and Pistons remain in contract standoff before October deadline

Jalen Duren remains unsigned by the Detroit Pistons as the 2026-27 NBA season approaches. The restricted free agent and the team have not reached an agreement on a new contract, with reports indicating a significant gap between the player's demands and the team's current offer. Duren is seeking a deal exceeding $40 million annually, while Detroit has reportedly proposed a five-year contract in the range of $35 million per year. The center has until October 1 to sign a $9.6 million qualifying offer, which would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Although Duren drew interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings early in free agency, he has not secured a new deal, and the Pistons have shown reluctance to participate in sign-and-trade discussions.
