Former Houston Astros general manager James Click has become a primary candidate for the vacant Athletics general manager position. Click currently holds the role of vice president of baseball strategy for the Toronto Blue Jays, a position he has occupied since 2023. His previous experience includes a tenure with the Houston Astros from 2020 through 2022, where he oversaw two AL West titles and a World Series victory. Before his time in Houston, he spent 15 seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays organization. The Athletics are searching for a replacement after firing David Forst, who served with the club for more than two decades. The incoming general manager will be tasked with managing organizational transition as the club prepares for a move to a new ballpark in Las Vegas scheduled for 2028.
