James Thompson returns to practice as 49ers monitor multiple injured starters

Defensive tackle James Thompson returned to limited practice Wednesday after missing the previous day with a hamstring injury. His return provides depth for the 49ers defensive line following the recent knee injury to Alfred Collins. Meanwhile, defensive end Nick Bosa and tight end George Kittle remained limited participants as the team prepares for Thursday night's season opener. Bosa, who underwent knee surgery last September, has dealt with soreness throughout his return to the field. Kittle continues his recovery from an Achilles injury sustained in the playoffs against the Eagles. Defensive coordinator Raheem Morris indicated Bosa is expected to play, though his workload remains uncertain. Several other players including Luke Gifford, Dre Greenlaw, Gracen Halton, Romello Height, and Kyle Juszczyk participated on a limited basis during the final session before the game.
