Jared Curtis enters as quarterback for Vanderbilt during game against Austin Peay

Five-star recruit Jared Curtis made his debut for Vanderbilt football during the season opener against Austin Peay on September 5. Curtis entered the game at FirstBank Stadium with 1:32 remaining in the second quarter. At the time of his entry, the Commodores held a 15-9 lead over the Governors. Starter Blaze Berlowitz had played the preceding drives, recording 127 passing yards on 8-of-11 attempts while adding 31 rushing yards and a touchdown. Head coach Clark Lea previously indicated that the starting quarterback position would be evaluated on a week-to-week basis throughout the season. Both Berlowitz and Curtis are expected to see playing time during the opener as the coaching staff continues to assess the roster. The competition for the starting role followed a preseason battle between the two signal-callers.
