Jason Sanders handles kicking duties for Jets in Sunday opener against Titans

Jason Sanders will serve as the placekicker for the New York Jets in their regular season opener against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday. Head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed the decision on Thursday, noting that Sanders has received the majority of repetitions during practice since joining the team in June. The kicking position remains a competition, as the team recently signed Blake Grupe to the roster. Glenn stated that he intends to allow the roster battle to continue beyond the first week of the season. Grupe requires more time to develop chemistry with long snapper Thomas Hennessy and holder Austin McNamara before the coaching staff finalizes a permanent decision. Sanders previously played for the Miami Dolphins from 2018 through 2024 but spent the entirety of the 2025 season sidelined by a hip injury.
