Jay Gohil replaces Sarfaraz Khan in West Zone Duleep Trophy squad

Jay Gohil of Saurashtra has been named as Sarfaraz Khan's replacement in the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy. Gohil, who was initially a standby player, has strong Ranji Trophy performances with 523 runs in six matches this season. His promotion comes as Sarfaraz was shifted to the Indian team for the Test series against Sri Lanka due to an injury to Sai Sudharsan. Under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, West Zone is set to face North Zone in their opener on August 23 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

"Jay Gohil will be Saurashtra’s second player in the squad apart from promising ‘keeper-batter Harvik Desai. The young batter from Bhavnagar made his first-class debut for Saurashtra against Assam in Dec 2022, and was a part of the Kathiawar side’s Ranji Trophy winning campaign in the 2022-23 season.
