Jayden Maiava earns Associated Press national player of the week honors

The Associated Press named USC quarterback Jayden Maiava the national player of the week following the opening weekend of the 2026 college football season. Maiava led the Trojans to a 42-26 victory over San Jose State at the Coliseum on Saturday. During the game, he completed 25 of 29 pass attempts for 286 yards and two touchdowns. He also recorded one rushing touchdown before departing the contest after three quarters of play. This performance moved the Trojans to a 1-0 record to start their season. USC is scheduled to return to the Coliseum on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Pacific time to face Fresno State.
