Jays trade Kevin Gausman for prospects, acquire José Soriano

The Toronto Blue Jays traded starting pitcher Kevin Gausman to the Chicago Cubs for minor leaguers Brett Bateman and Ty Southisene. In a separate deal, the Jays acquired starting pitcher José Soriano from the Los Angeles Angels, sending minor leaguers Arjun Nimmala, Eddie Mitcheletti, and Angel Rivero in return. This marks a strategic buy-and-sell approach for the Jays as they sit 4.5 games back in the Wild Card race. Gausman, in the last year of a five-year deal, had a 4.38 ERA in 2026. In contrast, Soriano, who is under team control through 2028, has a 3.29 ERA this season.
