Jets' Cade Klubnik to start against Buccaneers due to Smith's injury

Summary

The New York Jets will feature Cade Klubnik as their starting quarterback in their preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 15, 2026. This change comes after starter Geno Smith was ruled out due to foot soreness, although the injury is not considered serious. Klubnik's opportunity to lead the team is significant as he seeks to secure the backup quarterback position heading into the regular season. Coach Aaron Glenn indicated he planned to have all starters play, but Smith's absence alters that strategy. The Jets offense, praised for its improvements, will give Klubnik valuable game experience.
