Jets name rookie Cade Klubnik backup quarterback for Week 1

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed that rookie Cade Klubnik will serve as the backup quarterback behind Geno Smith for the season opener against the Tennessee Titans. The decision follows a training camp competition during which Klubnik earned favor through his performance in games and scout team practice repetitions. While the team plans to prioritize the current roster, Glenn indicated the front office remains open to adding further depth, specifically targeting the practice squad for future quarterback signings. The franchise previously attempted to secure Brady Cook via waivers before he was claimed by the Miami Dolphins. Consequently, the team is set to add veteran Bailey Zappe to its practice squad. The Jets have currently filled 16 spots on that unit, including an exemption for pass rusher Paschal Ekeji.
