Jets place draft picks Anez Cooper and VJ Payne on injured reserve

The New York Jets finalized their initial 53-man roster on Sunday after placing two members of their 2026 draft class on injured reserve. Guard Anez Cooper and safety VJ Payne are both eligible to return after the first four games of the regular season. Linebacker Tyler Baron will remain on the physically unable to perform list and is also sidelined for the initial four-week period. Additionally, the team placed cornerback Tre Brown, running back Chip Trayanum, and linebacker Mykal Walker on injured reserve without return eligibility for the remainder of the season. To reach the required roster limit, the organization released or waived 32 players, including quarterback Bailey Zappe and defensive lineman Mazi Smith.
