Jett Lawrence misses SuperMotocross playoffs for ankle surgery

Reigning SuperMotocross World Champion Jett Lawrence will sit out the entire 2026 SMX playoff series to undergo surgery on his right ankle. American Honda confirmed the rider, who has struggled with an injury sustained in training last December, will undergo the procedure on September 9 at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. Lawrence raced through the AMA Pro Motocross season with the injury, but aggravated the joint during the finale at Ironman Raceway, leading to increased pain and instability. As a result, he will forfeit his opportunity to defend the title he won in each of the last three years. The Honda HRC Progressive team confirmed the 450-class championship hopeful will focus on his long-term recovery. Hunter Lawrence will lead the team at the playoff opener in Columbus, Ohio, on September 12.
