Joe Sakic negotiates contract extension with Avalanche coach Jared Bednar

Colorado Avalanche president Joe Sakic confirmed the organization is in discussions regarding a contract extension for head coach Jared Bednar. Bednar is entering the final year of his current three-year deal with the team. Sakic stated there is no immediate urgency to finalize the agreement despite the expiring contract. Bednar has served as the team's head coach since 2016 and remains the winningest coach in franchise history. He led the organization to a Stanley Cup title in 2022 during his tenure. The club plans to continue internal talks with the coach to determine a path forward. Management previously secured a long-term extension with defenseman Cale Makar earlier this summer following similar negotiation discussions.
