MMABKFC announced Sunday that John Dodson is scheduled to challenge Jamel Herring for the bantamweight championship on October 17 in Newark, New Jersey. This bout marks Dodson's return to the promotion after a 27-month absence from the ring. Currently the BKFC flyweight champion, Dodson plans to move up in weight to face Herring, the reigning bantamweight titleholder. Herring, a former WBO junior lightweight boxing champion, earned the belt after back-to-back unanimous decision victories earlier this year. While the matchup is set, Dodson’s agent stated that contractual details remain under negotiation ahead of a planned three-fight deal. The card will not include Chelsea Dodson, who recently signed with the promotion.
