John Pelphrey joins Kentucky Basketball coaching staff as director of player development

John Pelphrey has been appointed by Kentucky Basketball as the director of player development, effective today. Pelphrey, a former player for the Wildcats and part of the celebrated team known as The Unforgettables, played in Lexington from 1987 to 1992. He has extensive coaching experience, including head coaching roles at South Alabama and Arkansas. Most recently, he served as the head coach at Tennessee Tech until March 2026. Pelphrey is expected to contribute significantly as Kentucky enters a critical Year 3 under head coach Mark Pope.
