Jorge Mateo signs with Tampa Bay Rays after Braves release

Summary

Jorge Mateo has signed a major league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, just two days after being released by the Atlanta Braves. The Braves designated Mateo for assignment on August 3, and his tenure ended a day after Atlanta removed him from their roster due to roster needs. The Rays, currently leading the AL East, add Mateo as a versatile infielder who can contribute while providing organizational depth. His speed and defensive skills could help the Rays as they aim for a postseason run, particularly with players able to join the playoff roster if added by August 31.
