Welcome to the latest edition of Missed Fists where we shine a light on fights from across the globe that may have been overlooked in these hectic times where it seems like there’s an MMA show every other day. Normally when I’m stumping for fighters to Keep The Martial Arts Apart, it’s when I’m watching an MMA fight where a Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist is getting lit up on the feet because they’ve decided to kickbox, or the opposite, an elite striker is getting mangled on the ground because they want to show off their newly earned purple belt. The martial arts just weren’t meant to be mixed, I always say. But it’s rare that I’ve had to make this complaint while watching a bare-knuckle boxing match. One would think the martial arts have already been firmly separated, there’s nothing to worry about! I forgot one important thing: Never, ever, underestimate Julian Lane. This is going to shock you: He was immediately disqualified. In classic Lane fashion, he looked bewildered as to why he’d just taken an L. As with everything Julian Lane, I can’t begin to imagine what he was thinking here and you shouldn’t try either.
