June Weir wins Black Pudding Throwing World Championship

June Weir, a 73-year-old grandmother from Wilpshire, became one of the joint winners of the official Black Pudding Throwing World Championships at The Oak pub in Ramsbottom on September 13. This year’s event, which drew crowds cheering on competitors hurling black puddings at Yorkshire puddings, marked Weir's third attempt at the title. She knocked down six Yorkshire puddings to secure victory against other participants, including competitors from Peru and Sweden. The event, which has taken place for over a century, successfully raised more than £2,000 for local charities, including Bury Hospice. Weir expressed her surprise and joy at the win and indicated she would likely defend her title next year.
