Junior Mason Schweiger starts at quarterback for Cherokee football

Cherokee junior Mason Schweiger has stepped into a dual role as the team's starting quarterback and linebacker. In his debut appearance, Schweiger recorded one passing touchdown on 3-of-5 passing for 41 yards while adding a rushing touchdown on nine carries. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound athlete credited his off-season preparation, including weight room training and weekly quarterback sessions, for his readiness. Cherokee coach Shawn Divece praised Schweiger for his diligence and dedication to studying defensive schemes. Schweiger, who cited Eli Manning as an early inspiration, expressed intent to continue playing at the collegiate level following his high school career.
