Ka’eo Akana earns captaincy and records sack following birth of daughter

University of Hawaii pass-rusher Ka’eo Akana recorded a career-best performance during the Warriors' game against UNLV at the Ching complex last Saturday. Akana started the contest at rush end, stepping in for Lester Lagafuaina, who was sidelined with shoulder issues. The defensive effort included a significant sack just before halftime, as Akana knocked UNLV quarterback Jackson Arnold to the turf to halt a fourth-down attempt. The appearance followed a notable week for the Hawaii defensive end, who became a father on Friday morning after his girlfriend, Keila Kamoku, gave birth to their daughter, La’iekawai. Prior to the game, head coach Timmy Chang and defensive ends coach Jordan Pu’u-Robinson selected Akana as a game captain. Akana transferred to the Warriors program in January 2005 and has since emerged as a key contributor on the defensive front.
