Kansas volleyball opens season with losses to Pittsburgh and Stanford

The Kansas Jayhawks volleyball team began the 2026 season with an 0-2 record following losses in four sets to both Pittsburgh and Stanford at the Opening Spike Classic. Despite falling to two top-five opponents, the team remains ranked 16th nationally. Kansas enters the season under head coach Matt Ulmer, who is beginning his second year leading the program following a 24-11 campaign in 2025 that reached the Sweet 16. The roster undergoes a transition this year after losing significant offensive production from last season's contributors. Freshman Taylor Stanley has emerged as an early focal point for the offense, recording 36 kills across the opening two matches against elite competition. The program seeks to maintain its streak of five consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
