Karen Khachanov eliminates Felix Auger-Aliassime from the US Open

Felix Auger-Aliassime exited the US Open in the second round on Thursday following a four-set loss to Karen Khachanov at the Louis Armstrong Stadium. The Canadian, seeded third and a semi-finalist in this tournament last year, fell by a score of 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. Khachanov broke his opponent's serve seven times during the match and navigated past seven of nine break points to secure the win. The Russian, currently ranked 50th in the world, now moves into the third round of all four Grand Slam events within a single calendar year for the first time in his career. While Auger-Aliassime appeared to struggle with his energy levels as the match progressed, Khachanov capitalized on a string of errors to advance. Khachanov will face either Benjamin Bonzi or Ignacio Buse in the next round.
