Kate Canales wins national title in 50-meter breaststroke

Kate Canales of Boerne Champion won the 50-meter breaststroke at the USA Swimming Junior Nationals on August 4, 2026, in Irvine, California. She finished with a time of 32.04 seconds, narrowly defeating Grace Koenig-Song, who clocked in at 32.08. Canales achieved this victory following a week of competition, where she also swam in multiple events at the USA Swimming National Championships. This marks her first national title, and she is recognized as the state’s top-ranked girls swimmer. Canales, a committed athlete to Florida, has eight career state gold medals and was named the UIL Class 5A State Championships MVP earlier this year.
