Kellom leads Eastern Illinois to win at Murray State

Eastern Illinois football commenced its 2026 season with a 28-14 victory over Murray State on August 27. Team captain Charles Kellom rushed for 171 yards on 19 carries, scoring three touchdowns, including an 88-yard run in the second quarter. Quarterback Cole LaCrue contributed 101 passing yards and a touchdown. The EIU defense was also impactful, forcing two turnovers and recording 10 tackles and an interception from Ja'Wuan Nickson. Eastern Illinois is set to face Minnesota on September 3 before hosting Indiana State on September 12.
