Kenneth Rooks fails to advance in steeplechase at U.S. championships

Day 1 of the U.S. track and field championships at Icahn Stadium in New York City featured unexpected results for athletes with BYU connections. Kenneth Rooks, an Olympic silver medalist and three-time national champion, finished 20th in the steeplechase and did not advance to the finals. His training partners James Corrigan and Dan Michalski successfully qualified for the finals. Other notable BYU athletes, including Jaslyn Gardner and Paje Rasmussen, advanced in the 100-meter dash, while Carlee Hansen moved forward in the 1,500-meter run with a personal-best time.
