Kevin Durant critiques prominence of international stars in the NBA

Kevin Durant recently voiced his opinion on the current status of international players in the NBA during a discussion on Boardroom Talk. He suggests that the narrative surrounding the league being dominated by international stars is misguided, arguing that these players are largely influenced by American legends. Durant specifically referenced Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's Canadian background, questioning if he should be considered an international player given his American basketball upbringing. Despite recognizing the success of international MVP winners like Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic, Durant insists that the game's roots remain in American basketball culture and that these players emulate their American predecessors. Alperen Sengun, Durant's current teammate with the Houston Rockets, represents the increasing presence of international talent in the league, adding an interesting dynamic to Durant's comments.
