Kimi Antonelli claimed victory at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza on Sunday, becoming the first Italian winner at the venue in 60 years. Starting from 19th on the grid, the Mercedes driver overtook teammate George Russell in the closing stages of the race to secure his seventh win of the season. Russell finished second after completing the majority of the race on a single set of hard tyres following a decision to skip a mid-race pit stop during a virtual safety car period. Despite his strong performance, Russell was jeered by spectators while appearing on the podium. The victory extends Antonelli's lead in the world championship to 66 points over Russell. Formula 1 now moves to Madrid for the first-ever Spanish Grand Prix on the new street circuit.
