Kirby Smart cautious about Cole Speer's status with Georgia football

Summary

Georgia football coach Kirby Smart addressed speculation regarding Cole Speer’s potential return for a fifth season on August 19. Although reports indicated Speer participated in practice and would undergo an NCAA acclimation period, Smart urged caution, stating, 'I wouldn’t make any assumptions right now.' Speer, who did not catch a pass last season, could provide veteran leadership to a wide receiver group that lacks experience. The Bulldogs have players like London Humphreys and transfers Helton and Canion as the most seasoned options at the position. Smart confirmed that discussions with Speer have occurred, but nothing is official yet.
