Kirk Ferentz discusses Iowa roster updates ahead of Cy-Hawk rivalry game

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz addressed media members on Tuesday, Sept. 8, regarding team preparations for the upcoming Cy-Hawk rivalry game against Iowa State. Ferentz announced that L.J. Phillips will miss the contest due to an injury sustained in the season opener, while transfer safety Tyler Brown remains out. At the quarterback position, the team plans to continue rotating Hank Brown and Jeremy Hecklinski as the coaching staff evaluates both players. Ferentz also opened his press conference by sharing condolences following the death of university marching band member Derek Phillips, who collapsed at Kinnick Stadium on Sept. 5. The Hawkeyes are now focusing on a new Iowa State roster and staff as they prepare for the Saturday matchup.
