The New York Knicks are holding a celebration for their first NBA Finals victory since 1973 during their season opener on October 20, 2026, at Madison Square Garden. Attendees received T-shirts marking the event, emblazoned with "2026-27 Champions Night" alongside an image of the Larry O'Brien Trophy. This celebration comes after the Knicks secured the championship for the 2025-26 season. Some observers on social media found humor in the T-shirts declaring the Knicks as champions for the upcoming season. Philadelphia Inquirer editor DeAntae Prince remarked on the premature coronation.
