Knicks set for season opener amid Dolan-Towns contract talks controversy

Summary

The New York Knicks will host the Philadelphia 76ers on opening night, October 14, 2026, where they will celebrate their championship with a ring ceremony for players including Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. Amidst this event, team owner James Dolan has halted contract extension negotiations with Towns and Josh Hart, which has sparked criticism from analyst Stephen A. Smith. Smith asserts that Dolan's recent actions could indicate a shift towards a cost-saving approach after winning the title.
