Nearly 60 Scrabble competitors from around the world will gather at the Lincoln Room at Knox College in Galesburg for the Midwest Showdown tournament. The three-day event, scheduled for Sept. 5-7, marks the first time the college has served as the host site for this officially sanctioned competition. Participants will be divided into three divisions based on skill, rating, and lexicon, with each player scheduled for seven matches during the opening round. Organizers expect to see approximately 572 total games played throughout the weekend. The tournament will feature a $6,000 prize pool, with winners also receiving support from local restaurants. Matches are set to be streamed live on the Let’s Play Scrabble YouTube channel, providing a global audience with a look at both the competition and the college campus.
