Kylian Mbappé pursues 2026 Ballon d'Or following record-breaking World Cup performance

Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé publicly declared himself the best player in the world as he positions himself for the 2026 Ballon d'Or. His case centers on a record-breaking performance at the 2026 World Cup in North America, where he tallied 10 goals to become the tournament's all-time leading scorer. The 27-year-old forward also became the first player in history to secure multiple World Cup Golden Boots, despite France finishing fourth in the competition. At the club level, Mbappé scored 42 goals in 44 matches for Real Madrid, earning a second consecutive Pichichi Trophy. Although he finished the domestic campaign without silverware, he maintains that his association with the world's top club and his international achievements warrant strong consideration for the prestigious individual award. Voters, primarily comprised of journalists, will ultimately determine the recipient of this year's trophy.
