Kymora Johnson stays at Virginia after head coach dismissal

Kymora Johnson decided to remain at Virginia for her senior season following a brief period in the transfer portal. The three-time All-ACC point guard entered the portal after Virginia fired head coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton in April. During her search for a new program, Johnson visited South Carolina and spoke with coach Dawn Staley. Staley encouraged the guard to remain with the Cavaliers, a conversation that influenced Johnson's decision to return to the school under new head coach Aaron Roussell. Johnson led Virginia to a Sweet 16 appearance during the 2025-26 season, averaging 19.5 points and 5.9 assists. The Cavaliers open their upcoming season against Maryland Eastern Shore on November 2.
