Seven La Cañada High School baseball players are currently playing on the school's varsity football team this fall. The group includes quarterback Joe Bell, his brother and linebacker Jake Bell, along with teammates Brandon Mohaghegh, Chase Regan, Ross Piken, Ethan Wong, and Caythan Kim. The players often participate in batting practice sessions during the week alongside their football training. Football coach David Avramovich and baseball coach Nathan Bernstein support the cross-sport participation, which allows athletes to compete with long-time friends from their Little League days. Joe Bell, the reigning Rio Hondo League baseball player of the year, serves as the starting quarterback for the 2-0 Spartans. The school administration views the trend as a return to traditional multi-sport high school athletics.
