LA Galaxy acquire defender Lucas Calegari from Eyüpspor

The LA Galaxy announced Thursday the acquisition of defender Lucas Calegari from Turkish Süper Lig club Eyüpspor. The 24-year-old former Brazilian youth international is under contract with the MLS club through June 2029. Calegari returns to Los Angeles after spending the 2023 season on loan with the team, where he recorded two assists in 27 appearances and earned team Defender of the Year honors despite an ACL injury. The defender arrives as the latest addition to a roster that recently brought in Kyōgo Furuhashi, Hirving "Chucky" Lozano, and Sergi Roberto. The LA Galaxy currently sit 13th in the Western Conference standings as the club aims to improve its position in the playoff race. General manager Will Kuntz cited Calegari's familiarity with the organization and his experience across multiple leagues as key factors in the signing.
