LA Kings hire former Rangers coach Peter Laviolette on three-year deal

The Los Angeles Kings have hired Peter Laviolette as their head coach on a three-year contract. Laviolette replaces Jim Hiller, who was let go in March. He was previously coaching the New York Rangers until being fired after a season where the team missed the playoffs following a conference finals appearance. Laviolette has 23 seasons of coaching experience in the NHL and has led three different teams to the Stanley Cup Final, winning once with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006.
