Lakers reflect on Wayne Yates' brief NBA career

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to highlight their storied franchise's history as they examine Wayne Yates, who wore jersey number 55. Yates, chosen as the fifth pick in the 1961 NBA Draft, played one season for the Lakers, averaging 1.9 points and 2.5 rebounds. Before his time with the Lakers, Yates had a successful college career at the University of Memphis, culminating in 17.5 points and 14.4 rebounds per game in his final NCAA season. After leaving the NBA, he briefly played for the Oakland Oaks in the ABL. Yates later transitioned to coaching, serving at Memphis State University from 1974 to 1979.
