Lamont Roach reflects on WBC title loss to William Zepeda

Roach on the loss to Zepeda “Tonight wasn’t my best night but no excuses. Hats off to Zepeda. They came prepared and when all else fails, you fight. That’s what I did. My timing was a bit off, I was throwing one big shot and they was capitalizing with the work rate. So, a lot of things was a little off and on top of that, you know, he was punching. “Tonight he was just a little better. And just tonight. He was defensively a little better, moved his head, he used his feet in certain instances. He wasn’t just a straight come-forward fighter tonight and it offset me a little bit.” On the punch volume from Zepeda “The volume is to be expected. I knew it was going to be tough regardless, unless I caught him with a good shot. That didn’t happen.” On whether he suffered a hand injury “I just messed my thumb up a little bit but nah, not no major injury.” On what parting words he had for Zepeda “I told him great fight, he’s a warrior, and I’m going to make my way back to that opportunity. If we see each other again, the result won’t be the same.” On where he goes from here “Back to the drawing board. Go back to the gym and show I’m one of the best fighters. Zepeda had a good night and he capitalized off of it but I’m a thousand times better than that and I just got to get back in the gym and show it.”
