Lanier overcomes Jefferson 31-14 in District 14-5A-II football opener

The Lanier Voks defeated the Jefferson Mustangs 31-14 in their District 14-5A-II opener held Friday at the San Antonio ISD Athletic Complex. Lanier running back Nicholas Torres recorded 131 rushing yards and a touchdown during the first half to establish momentum. A lightning delay interrupted the game in the second half, during which Mustangs running back Michael Bejar narrowed the deficit with a 6-yard touchdown run and a successful 2-point conversion. Lanier responded with steady ground play, including a 43-yard rushing touchdown by sophomore quarterback Erick Esparza to secure the victory. Coach Sal Tellez credited the team's ability to maintain focus and energy throughout the lengthy weather delay for the second-half performance. Lanier successfully utilized its rushing rotation to move past Jefferson in the district standings.
