Laurin Heinrich joins Porsche Penske for IMSA race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Porsche Penske Motorsport has updated its driver roster for the upcoming IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on September 20. Laurin Heinrich will take the seat in the #6 Porsche 963, replacing Laurens Vanthoor. Heinrich will partner with Kevin Estre as the team attempts to close a 118-point gap to championship leader Jack Aitken. The reorganization also impacts the JDC MotorSports team, with Nico Mueller moving to fill the vacancy created by Heinrich’s shift to the factory squad. Porsche LMDh factory director Urs Kuratle described the change as a priority for the driver championship. The team provided no official explanation for the absence of Vanthoor, who is currently signed to compete for the McLaren Hypercar program in the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship.
