Leandro Paredes evaluates Argentina career following 10-match international suspension

Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes says his future with the national team is uncertain following a 10-match suspension. Fifa handed down the ban after a physical confrontation occurred on the pitch during the 2026 World Cup final, which saw Argentina lose 1-0 to Spain. During the incident, Paredes was involved in a dispute with Eric Garcia and Gavi. The 32-year-old Boca Juniors player noted that the lengthy suspension and the recent retirement of Lionel Messi have made it difficult for him to remain with the squad. Paredes has not yet discussed the matter with coach Lionel Scaloni, but he intends to consult the manager before deciding whether to continue his international career. Messi, who retired after the World Cup, finished his international tenure as Argentina's all-time leading scorer with 125 goals in 207 appearances.
