This critique follows comments made by Newton on his talk show 4th & 1, where he questioned the selection process for mainstream color commentators. Newton expressed concern that the league's broadcast roles lack diversity, noting that a significant majority of players are minorities while those in the booth are predominantly Caucasian. He listed several analysts, including Kirk Herbstreit, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, and Cris Collinsworth, while suggesting that minority former players like Charles Davis, RGIII, Jonathan Vilma, and Jason McCourty are capable of filling these roles. Aikman, who serves as an advisor to the Miami Dolphins, remains the lead analyst for Monday Night Football.
